The increasing profile of ex-presidents, prime ministers and foreign ministers on cross-border issues is a prominent aspect of current debates about global governance. Professor Andrew F. Cooper’s book ‘Diplomatic Afterlives’ investigates this phenomenon with a focus on Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair and Mikhail Gorbachev.
