The new book “Marine Scientific Research, New Marine Technologies and the Law of the Sea” has just been published by Brill, edited by Professor Keyuan Zou and Professor Anastasia Telesetsky. Congratulations to both! The book has its origins in a fascinating and convivial October 2018 symposium on ‘Marine Scientific Research and the Law of the Sea’ held in Hangzhou, China.

On the topic of technology transfer for the high seas, I have contributed a chapter on “Potential Modalities for Technology Transfer under the International Legally Binding Instrument”. Due to the impacts of the pandemic, the book has been published in advance of the long-delayed fourth session of the intergovernmental conference on a new international agreement for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the high seas, which will consider (among other topics) transfer of marine technology.
